They Fight for Our Special Kids Too

29 May

Truth: if my daughter was born in the 1930’s in Germany, she would have been exterminated in a Nazi concentration camp. The mentally ill and those with developmental issues were rounded up and thrown into the gas chambers.

Take a moment, in this day after Memorial Day to thank the people who fight for us to live in a country that may not be perfect, that may have quite a ways to go in protecting some of its most vulnerable citizens but that we are blessed enough to have things like IDEA and IEPs. There is much we can say is wrong with our world but we need to remember to take a step back every once and a while and acknowledge what is right. The men and women who gave their lives for our country, gave their lives so that our children would live better lives than they would have otherwise. Never, ever forget that.
